Extend the growth phase of your lashes

Each eyelash on the eyelid has its own natural life cycle, which determines the length and density of the lashes. This cycle consists of three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen.

• The anagen phase, or growth phase, is the most important part of the cycle. During this time, the lash grows, the follicle produces melanin, and the lash is strong and healthy. For eyelashes, this phase lasts between 2 and 5 months (compared to 2–5 years for scalp hair).
• The catagen phase, or transition phase, marks the end of lash growth. The hair follicle begins to shrink, and so does the lash. This is a very short resting phase, lasting about 2 weeks.
• The telogen phase, or shedding phase, is when lashes naturally fall out. This phase lasts between 4 and 9 months, and at any given time, more than half of your lashes are in this phase.
