Each eyelash on your eyelid has its own life cycle that determines the density, length, and fullness of the entire eyelashes. This cycle consists of 3 phases: the anagen, catagen, and telogen phase.

• The anagen phase or growth phase is the most crucial part of the cycle, as it is during this phase that the eyelash grows, the follicle secretes melanin, and the eyelash becomes strong and firm. For eyelashes, this phase lasts for 2-5 months (unlike hair, which lasts for 2-5 years).
• The catagen phase or resting phase marks the end of eyelash growth. The hair follicle begins to break down, leading to the decline of the eyelash. The resting phase is very short, lasting about 2 weeks.
• The telogen phase or shedding phase means the shedding of eyelashes. This phase for eyelashes lasts 4 to 9 months. More than half of the eyelashes are in this stage at any given time.
